A couple of years ago, on Paul McCartney’s 80th birthday, I wrote an article in which I shared my favorite song from each of his solo (and Wings) albums. In that piece, I also included a Spotify playlist I made that contained 80 of my favorite songs from Paul.
Since he recently celebrated his 82nd birthday, I did something similar to what I did before — but this time I focused on Paul’s music from when he was in The Beatles.
As a lifelong fan of him and The Fab Four (he’s my favorite of them), choosing just one favorite song by Paul from each of The Beatles’ albums is an almost impossible thing to do. After all, they’re each full of fantastic songs.
But I did it anyway!
If you’re a music lover like me, though, you probably know that these kinds of musical choices are subject to change, depending on any number of things on any given day.
For instance, today I might be feeling a bit romantic and say that my favorite song from the Rubber Soul album is “Michelle.” However, tomorrow I might be in a more rocking mood and say my favorite song from the album is “Drive My Car.”
Therefore, the below songs are my favorites from today — a day in the life of me.
My favorites may have been different yesterday.
As for tomorrow, well, tomorrow never knows, I suppose.
At the end of this piece is also a Spotify playlist I created that includes my favorites from each album, plus many other songs by The Beatles. In honor of Paul turning 82, there are 82 songs on the playlist.
Each of the below songs features lead vocals by Paul McCartney, except for a few in which he shared the vocals with other members of The Beatles.
NOTE: All of the music videos below are from The Beatles’ official YouTube channel.
Enjoy!
I Saw Her Standing There – From ‘Please Please Me’ (1963)
All My Loving – From ‘With The Beatles’ (1963)
Things We Said Today – From ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ (1964)
I’ll Follow The Sun — From ‘Beatles For Sale’ (1964)
I’ve Just Seen A Face — From ‘Help’ (1965)
You Won’t See Me — From ‘Rubber Soul’ (1965)
Got To Get You Into My Life — From ‘Revolver’ (1966)
She’s Leaving Home — From ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ (1967)
The Fool On The Hill — From ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ (1967)
Helter Skelter — From ‘The Beatles (The White Album)’ (1968)
All Together Now — From ‘Yellow Submarine’ (1969)
The Golden Slumbers Medley — From ‘Abbey Road’ (1969)
NOTE: I realize that there are three songs above. However, together they are often unofficially referred to as “The Golden Slumbers Medley.” In my opinion, they should always be played together as one long wonderful song!
Get Back —From ‘ Let It Be’ (1970)
From Compilation Albums
She’s A Woman — From ‘Past Masters, Volume One’ (1965)
Paperback Writer — From ‘Past Masters, Volume Two’ (1966)
Free As A Bird — From ‘Anthology 1’ (1995)
And Your Bird Can Sing (Take 2/Anthology Version) — From ‘Anthology 2’ (Recorded: 1966/Released: 1996)
Come And Get It (Anthology 3 Version)— From ‘Anthology 3’ (Recorded: 1969/Released: 1996)
And here is the aforementioned Spotify playlist I mentioned. It contains 82 songs and is approximately 3 hours and 36 minutes long. If you listen, I hope you enjoy it!
