The 2025 Reading Challenge: Read 25 Books in 2025

Are you a book lover?

If so, do you have any reading goals for 2025?

A very popular thing at the beginning of each year for a lot of avid book lovers is the annual Reading Challenge on Goodreads. As of January 1st of each year, users of Goodreads can set a numerical reading goal of how many books they hope to read during the year.

I’ve done it for several years and I’ve always had a lot of fun with it. However, I don’t always reach the goals I set. For example, my goal for 2024 was 36 books and I read only 17.

Although I was a little disappointed in not reaching 36, I was still happy with 17. After all, any time spent reading is time well spent!

For 2025, I’ve decided to lower my goal from last year. This time around I’m going for 25 books. To hit it, I need to read just a little bit more than two books each month, which I think is doable.

Plus, the number ‘25’ goes perfectly with ‘2025,’ so I think choosing that number makes it more fun!

Below are the covers of several books I own copies of. They’re all currently on my ‘Want to Read’ list on Goodreads.

I’m currently reading two of the books seen above: Holmes Is Missing by James Patterson and Brian Sitts and Gentle Writing Advice by Chuck Wendig. I know I probably won’t be able to get to all of the other books this year, but here are 10 of them I’m especially looking forward to reading soon:

  1. The Golden Spoon — Jessa Maxwell
  2. We Used To Live Here — Marcus Kleiwer
  3. The Philosophy of Modern Song — Bob Dylan
  4. Cannery Row — John Steinbeck
  5. Finders Keepers — Stephen King
  6. The Women — Kristin Hannah
  7. ADHD Is Awesome — Penn and Kim Holderness
  8. No Regrets — Ace Frehley
  9. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo — Taylor Jenkins Reid
  10. Late, Late At Night — Rick Springfield

However, even those books aren’t necessarily ‘set in stone’ for me — because I know I’ll be distracted by other books this year that cry out to me telling me they want me to read them instead!

In addition to the books shown above, my Kindle, my Audible account, and the bookshelves in my home hold hundreds of other books I want to read.

And that’s not even to mention the new books that will be released in 2025 that I’ll inevitably be purchasing.

It’s going to be a busy reading year for me — and I’m excited about it all!

How about you? Are there any particular books you’re looking forward to reading this year?

Also, do you have any goals as to how many books you hope to read for this year? If so, how many?

If you haven’t picked a number yet, I suggest following my lead and going for 25.

After all, it’s going to be a very easy number to remember this year!
